It started in November of 2007. My aunt (Debra Johns) from Pageland, SC was finishing a regular day as a substitute teacher. She was sick and thought she had caught the "bug" from one of the students. For four months we did not think that anything was seriously wrong, but she kept loosing weight and never seemed to recover. She went to a doctor who told her to go home and take immodium and eat the brat diet, that it would cure her! A week later she sought the help of another doctor who immediately started tests. A week later that doctor put her in the hospital. I was at work and was notified that I needed to come to the hospital. Two hours later she was takened to Florence Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC. We were told they would have to do emergency surgery to repair a hole in her bowel. She was given 5% chance of living through the weekend. This was March 29, 2008. Since then she has undergone Chemo, and various other treatments. She has no insurance, but it's not only her I want to help, there is numerous others in the cancer clinic who are in desperate need of a helping hand.
